In the three ghost states, Meghalaya and Nagaland, assembly elections (Assembly Elections 2023) can be held this month. Voting took place in Tripura on 16 February and in Meghalaya-Nagaland on 27 February. After the elections to be held in all the three states, the counting of votes will take place on March 2. The results of the exit polls (NDTV Exit Polls 2023) will be declared after the voting in Meghalaya and Nagaland today, based on the finding of different alternatives. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has banned exit polls in Meghalaya from 7 am on Friday to 7 pm on Monday.

What percentage of voting took place in the three states?
Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland have 60 seats each in the assembly. In Tripura, polling took place on February 16 for all 60 constituencies. 59 voting was held in Meghalaya and Nagaland. The counting of votes was held in the Sohyeong seat of the Meghalaya Assembly following the death of a candidate. While in Nagaland BJP’s Kazeto Kinimi was re-elected from Akuluto assembly constituency after his only rival withdrew his nomination. Tripura saw 79.5% voter turnout in the assembly elections held this year.

At the same time, in Meghalaya and Nagaland, the polling for the assembly elections ended at 5 pm from 7 am. Till 5 pm, 74.32% voting has been done in Meghalaya and 81.94% in Nagaland.

BJP coalition government in Meghalaya-Nagaland
This time there is a coalition government of BJP in both the states. In Meghalaya, the National People’s Party (NPP) has formed a government in alliance with the BJP, but this time the two parties are contesting separately. At the same time, there is a coalition government of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP in Nagaland. This time also both the parties are contesting together.

Last time BJP got 36 seats.
It is the only ghost state in the 2018 elections where the BJP on its own won 36 seats in the 60-member assembly. The BJP formed the government with 44 covers in alliance with the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IP FTA). IPFT found 8 apprehensions. The alliance got more than 50 percent votes in 33 out of 44 states.
