Chintan Gandhi, a businessman and a resident of VP Road area, was arrested at the departure section of T2.

Parents can do anything for their kids and this incident just proves it. A south Mumbai resident has been arrested for allegedly trying to enter the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by posing as a security officer to see off his son. Chintan Gandhi, a businessman and a resident of VP Road area, was arrested at the departure section of T2. This happened after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel discovered his fake ID card. He came to notice after sub-inspector Sumit Singh stopped Gandhi mistaking him for a civilian. In response Gandhi claimed that he was a CISF officer and even produced an ID card.

“The card was made in the name of CISF assistant sub-inspector Ramkumar. I checked it and it turned out to be fake. So, I asked him for one more identity proof which he said he does not have. I immediately alerted my superiors,” Singh claimed in his statement.

He confessed his crime after being taken to CISF Inspector Avinash Ranjan.

However, a surprise came when Gandhi pleaded with the authorities not to tell her son about the incident, and the CISF agreed. He was taken away without the knowledge of his son and handed over to the Sahar police. There he was arrested on charges of forgery.

He has now been booked for cheating, forgery and impersonation under the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, earlier in November, an FIR was lodged against absconding Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki for allegedly flying on a fake Aadhaar card and compromising airport security. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Anand Prakash Tiwari said a senior woman SP leader Noori Shaukat and three others who allegedly helped Solanki in obtaining the Aadhaar card have also been arrested.

The MLA was already wanted in two criminal cases and had come to Mumbai from Delhi using this fake identity card to evade arrest. The official said that the Aadhaar card had his photograph but his name was written as Ashraf Ali.
