Serum Institute of India (SII) CEO Adar Poonawalla said on April 12 that it has resumed manufacturing of COVID-19 between vaccine covishield Increasing number of cases of virus infection,

He said the company already has six million booster doses of the Covax vaccine available and that adults should get a booster shot.

Reacting to reports of a shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, he said manufacturers are ready but no demand has been made.

“As a precaution, at risk we have done this so that people have CoviShield as an option if they want it,” Mr Poonawalla told PTI On resuming the manufacturing of the vaccine.

The company had stopped manufacturing Covishield in December 2021.

On Covax which is approved as a booster dose for 18 years and over, he said, “We have six million doses ready but the demand is absolutely zero.” The Covovax booster is now on the CoWin app, he said.
