Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has tested positive for coronavirus after which he was ruled out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for at least a week. Afridi, who played for Quetta Gladiators, will no longer play four league matches; However, this is not the first time that he has been ruled out of the PSL due to COVID-19. He had tested positive after being involved in relief operations during the initial stages of the pandemic, back in June 2020.

ESPN Cricinfo reported that Afridi has checked out of his hotel room and will now isolate for a week at his residence instead of the area designated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for COVID-affected persons. Gladiators have confirmed that they can rejoin the bubble only after seven days of isolation and a negative PCR test.

According to the PCB’s protocol, any person who has come in contact with a positive person or who has interacted with him for more than 15 minutes from less than two meters during the last 48 hours, will have to isolate. Afridi will miss the first two matches due to a back sprain while batting at the nets. Recently Afridi became the latest player to join the bandwagon who welcomed Virat’s decision. Speaking with Sama TV, the former all-rounder said that the ace Indian batsman has played enough cricket to know what is right for him.

“I think it’s okay. Virat has played a lot of cricket and captained the team well. And I believe it’s the right decision. There comes a stage where you can’t handle the pressure, and that’s because That affects your own performance. So, I think he has captained for a long time and at a great level. As a batsman, the time has come for him to enjoy his cricket,” Afridi said. .
