Here are excerpts from the interview where she talks about what to expect from this season of It Happens Only in India, the fascinating stories she came across and her journey as a travel influencer.

Why did you choose this show, It Happens Only in India?

I have always wanted to cover the quirky side of India in my travel videos on Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. It was really great to be able to partner with National Geographic and do this. It’s actually something I’ve always wanted to do. There are many things about our country that most people do not know.

Any particular place that has been really special to you?

We went deep into the interiors of India. For example, we went to a village in Tamil Nadu that used to be a regular village. And then it got replaced by a guy who actually looked for loopholes in government grants etc. He operated this village with solar energy. Every house has solar panels. I met a lot of interesting people who really went out of their way to make these things happen.

When did creating travel related content become such a big passion for you?

I’ve always been interested in traveling, since I was a kid, my father was a ship captain. I’ve never stayed in one place. Even when I started my first job at MTV, I took all the money I made and used to travel. At that time we did not have Instagram or YouTube. I used to take it it has always been my hobby. It’s always been something I’ve done on the side.

The making of the video started five years ago, when I was on a trip to Bali. Initially I did not know how to earn money from this. It started doing well and I thought, ‘Oh, I can get some free hotels from this’. It just picked up and started getting so much traction. And brands started approaching me and then soon I realized that I enjoyed acting more. It’s been five years now and it’s been great.

Instagram has become a huge platform for people to pursue their passions…

Not just Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, all social media are so big. Of course a TV channel name like Nat Geo… It’s an honor to work with him. But the reason social media is so big is also because it is very easy to see and it gets a lot of views.

How do you remain the jovial and jovial person you are in videos all the time?

I feel happy when the cameras are on. I think it’s my natural personality. But of course, there are days when I’m feeling so happy and not so happy for some reason. So I don’t shoot now. I try to put together some old footage and put it out there.
