The first look of actor Samantha Prabhu’s much-awaited film Shakuntalam was released on Monday, February 21. Weaving together the beautiful story of King Dushyant and Shakuntala, with their simple yet creative designs, National Award winning costume designer Neeta Lulla has created the costumes. For the entire cast of the film.
Looking more real as Shakuntala on the poster, Samantha is seen draped in a simple white dress adorned with flowers. Speaking about designing for Samantha, Neeta said, “Samantha was perfect for the title role of Shakuntalam. It was a pleasure working with him. She is such a patient actress. Samantha is one such actress who pays attention to detail to the portrayal of the character she is playing. There is a certain kind of softness in her which comes out beautifully in the film.”
Sharing the look on her Instagram account, the actress wrote: Presenting… nature’s sweetheart.. ethereal and dime .. “Shakuntala” from #shakuntalaam (sic). In a candid video shared by the designer’s team, Samantha thanked Neeta from the bottom of her heart for making her look ethereal. Dressed in a casual T-shirt with a pair of denim shorts in the video, Samantha says in a candid chat with the designer: “Before starting any film, I am very nervous about how I can pull it off. I’m going To play Shakuntalam, I knew she had to be very beautiful and honest, I didn’t have the confidence to look like that, but thank you for seeing me in this role and making me so ethereal.”
Samantha continues, “Every time I look at the monitor, I don’t even look at the scene and keep thinking wow, how did you make me look like this. This is the best I’ve ever seen… myself and here Even my mother doesn’t think I can look so beautiful (laughs).’
This beautiful story revolves around the love between King Dushyant and Shakuntala, and is helmed by film director Gunasekhar and produced by his daughter Neelima Guna. After working with Gunasekhar in her previous films, Neeta says, “I am looking forward to the release of the film. I think this will be one of the most beautiful projects I’ve worked on. Director Gunasekhar has done a splendid job in terms of characterization and every character in this film has been given a great deal of attention to detail.”
