Shared first glimpse of revamped Port Blair airport, boasts interesting design inspired by nature

The Airport Authority of India shared a photograph that shows how the new terminal building of Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar International Airport will be inaugurated. The picture was shared on Twitter with the captain, who read, “The design of the new terminal building #NTB, under construction at #AAI’s #PortBlair @aaipblairport, is to develop nature to become a haven. In addition, the building will have roof-standing-seam, aluminum profile roofing system, double curved cable net glazing system, internal and external EI, fire alarm, detection and fire fighting system and much more. The airport’s improvement exercise will cost around Rs 7.07 billion, and will be spread over 40,837 square metres, with a passenger capacity of 1,200 passengers during peak hours. However, the airport is expected to cater to four million passengers annually.

The new passenger terminal building will have three floors, the ground floor, the upper ground and the first floor. Along with the new terminal, additional parking bays are also being built at the airport. Also, 100% natural light will be provided during the day using skylights.

Earlier in May, this year, the Airports Authority of India said, “More than 80 per cent of the project work has been completed, and the development project is targeted to be completed by October 2022,” it said.
