Shark cut in half found on beach Internet wonders what predator attacked it

The type of shark is still officially unknown.

A shark that was found cut in half and washed off a Canadian beach has left internet users wondering what may have caused its death.

A Reddit user posted a gruesome photo of a decomposing shark’s body. In the caption, the user revealed that he saw the “poor man” washing up on Canada’s Oak Island.

Since being shared, the Reddit post has left netizens wondering what happened to the sea creature. Internet users were intrigued by how the shark was killed, with one user claiming it to be a horrific propeller accident.

“It was not a boat accident! It was not a propeller. It was not a coral reef. And it was not Jack the Ripper,” wrote one user. Another user said, “It was a shark, a great white shark. Certainly not a great white but I have seen many sharks get eaten by other sharks. There is always a bigger fish.”

A third user backed up the claim that it was a shark attack that halved the smaller shark. “Another shark will do this every day,” wrote a Reddit user.

Viral post with “Any idea (of a shark) what kind?” Some users even took the opportunity to joke about the status of the animal. One user jokingly said, ‘This is clearly a half shark. Another hilariously cited the findings as “leftovers.”

The type of shark that washed up on the beach is still officially unknown. However, several users noted that the dismembered body resembled an “Atlantic sharpnose”, due to its narrow nose and the dark color of the dorsal fin.

Atlantic sharpnoses are generally a smaller type of shark with a streamlined body, which makes them vulnerable to larger prey. According to NOAA FishingThey are commonly found along the western Atlantic through the Gulf of Mexico to New Brunswick, Canada.
