Shoaib Akhtar on New Zealand tour

Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at New Zealand Cricket For canceling his tour of Pakistan. The New Zealand cricket team on Friday canceled its ongoing tour of Pakistan, citing security threats.

It comes hours before the start of the first ODI in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Even though the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claimed that there was no security threat, New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said that “the safety of players is of paramount importance” and that they were therefore calling off the tour.

Angered by the Black Caps’ decision to cancel the Pakistan tour, Akhtar accused New Zealand of killing Pakistan cricket. He reacted to this fast-paced development in a tweet with two angry emojis.

This was going to be New Zealand’s first international cricket series on Pakistani soil in 18 years. It was canceled after the guest side stayed in their hotel rooms and did not come to the stadium for security reasons.

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi has called the security alert a hoax.

The PCB alleged that New Zealand has “unilaterally” taken the decision to cancel their Pakistan tour. It said that the security officials along with the New Zealand team are satisfied with the security arrangements made by the Government of Pakistan during their stay here.

In another tweet, the PCB said that it is “ready to continue with the scheduled matches”.

Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, is also angry with this decision of the New Zealand Cricket Board. Newly appointed PCB chairman Rameez Raja has promised action against the New Zealand cricket team.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced in a tweet that arrangements are now being made for the team’s departure. NZC did not provide any details of the security threat to the media.

New Zealand toured Pakistan for a series of 3 ODIs and 5 T20 Internationals in Rawalpindi and Lahore from 17 September to 3 October.
