‘Shocked’: Mamata Banerjee slams BCCI for Sourav Ganguly’s exit India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Heavy on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to not extend to Monday Sourav GangulyTerm as Chairman of the Board.

Talking to reporters at the Kolkata airport, Mamata said that she would request PM Modi to ensure that Ganguly is allowed to contest for the post of ICC chief.
Mamta said that if Jay Shah could continue as the secretary of the board, Ganguly could also continue as the BCCI chief. However, the TMC chief said he has no objection to Jay Shah continuing as secretary.
He said that there should be no politics on this matter.
Reacting to the chief minister’s comments, BJP state spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said that it is Mamata and the Trinamool Congress which are politicizing the issue.

“No one has previously served as BCCI president for two consecutive terms. There is no politics in this matter,” he said.
Even before this, TMC had lashed out at BJP. GangulyDeparture as BCCI chief and accused him of “trying to humiliate” the former India captain for not joining the saffron party.
“Since the BJP did such campaigns during and after the 2021 elections, it will certainly be the party’s responsibility to respond to such speculations (that there is politics behind Ganguly not getting a second term as BCCI chief) It seems that the BJP is trying to humiliate Sourav,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
The former India captain is set to be replaced by 1983 World Cup winning team member Roger Binny as the board chairman at the upcoming AGM (annual general meeting) of the apex body.
