Mumbai batsman Sarfaraz Khan Maintaining his impressive record in India’s domestic first-class tournaments, he has been in fine form in this year’s Ranji Trophy. Sarfaraz had scored 165, 63, 48 and 275 in the last three league matches in this year’s Ranji Trophy and then went on to score 153 runs in Mumbai’s quarter-final win against Uttarakhand. In the last season, he scored 928 runs in the Ranji Trophy and has a first-class average of 80.42. He also has an illustrious record of converting every first-class century into a score of 150 or more.

Dilip Vengsarkar, who was part of the 1983 World Cup winning team and is a former chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said the 24-year-old should be a part of the Indian team.

“He should have played for India this time. He has scored tons of runs every time (in Ranji Trophy). And if the selectors are still not convinced, I am really surprised,” VIngsarkar told Khaleej Times,

“What else can he do to make it to the Indian team? Every year he has scored more than 800 runs for Mumbai,” he added.

He also brushed aside questions about the batsman’s fitness, citing his ability to play big innings.

“I have seen him since the age of 12. He is a street-smart cricketer. He is always hungry for success. He is very fit and most importantly, he can play long innings,” Vengsarkar said.

He also said that Sarfaraz will be a big boost to the Indian middle order as he can improve and keep the scoreboard ticking.

The great Indian batsman said, “He is a fixer. And you need someone to speed up the scoring rate. A batsman like him helps the team because he moves the scoreboard all the time.”
