SHRC fines two officials in Tiruppur district

The Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has recommended to the state government to initiate disciplinary action against two government officials of Tiruppur district on Monday.

In response to a petition filed by V. Pushpalatha against the Panchayat Secretary, Semmipalayam and Block Development Officer, Palladam from Samigoundanapalayam in Palladam taluk, the commission imposed a fine of ₹ 50,000 on the officials and directed them to pay the same as compensation. The complainant owed water tax of ₹ 4,920 to the panchayat, due to which the water connection of his house was disconnected. The complainant alleged that the panchayat officials failed to restore the connection despite payment of dues. He also said that the husband of the panchayat president intervened in the administration and asked the officials not to restore the water connection.

After inquiry, the commission recommended disciplinary action against him for delay in restoration of water supply. The commission also asked the government to ensure that the family members of women gram panchayat presidents do not interfere in the administration.
