Balkaur Singh, father of late singer Sidhu Moose Wala, on Sunday joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi, which is currently in Punjab. The padyatra, suspended for 24 hours in view of the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Choudhary, resumed from Khalsa College ground in Jalandhar today.

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, 76-year-old Chaudhary died of a heart attack on Saturday. He was cremated at his native village Dhaliwal in Jalandhar on Sunday.

The Wayanad MP offered prayers at the Devi Talab temple in Jalandhar before resuming the march. As the march resumed around 3 p.m., Balkaur Singh accompanied Gandhi for some distance. Moose Wala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district in May last year. He contested the Punjab Assembly elections on a Congress ticket from Mansa, but failed to win.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Waring, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Pratap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MLA Pargat Singh and other party leaders participated in the march.

The Punjab phase of the march began on Wednesday from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib. In view of Lohri festival, the yatra came to a halt on Friday.

The march, which started from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu on September 7, will end in Srinagar by January 30. It has so far reached Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh. and Haryana.

Meanwhile, former Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal lauded the Bharat Jodo Yatra and said Rahul Gandhi Has been able to bring disparate elements of society together and make them realize how important it is to ensure unity in the country.

In an interview with PTI, Sibal, who quit the Congress last year, said the party’s yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir has been “alternatively” successful and has also garnered support from non-Congress elements.

“I think he (Rahul), during his march, has been able to bring together disparate elements of the society and make them realize how important it is to ensure unity in our country and respect for diversity is foremost. Is. Our country is moving forward,” the former Union minister said.
