Six arrested for kidnapping civil engineer for ransom

Yelahanka police on Wednesday rescued a 30-year-old civil engineer who was kidnapped for ransom by a group of six people. A police team tracked the gang to a secluded place off Kolar Highway and arrested all the six of them. The accused have been identified as Nandagopal (31), Sunil Senappa (32), Ashok Lingappa (31), Vignesh Anantram (21), Manoj Srinivas (24) and Shadab Ahmed (24).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-North East) Anoop A Shetty said, “The victim Manas, who hails from Odisha, runs a construction company in Yelahanka and was recently awarded a contract to build a residential apartment.”

Manas had given a sub-contract to one of the accused Nandgopal for construction of basement structure and he was owed Rs 3 lakh. However, when he delayed the payment and gave her a evasive reply, Nandagopal decided to kidnap her. On Wednesday, when he was going to office with an employee, he took his accomplices and the gang stopped the victim’s SUV near Raithra Santhe Road.

“They dragged Manas from his vehicle, assaulted him and forced him to sit in his car. One of the accused took possession of Manas’ SUV and asked the employee to get out. She said that they were taking her employer to the police station,” said a police officer.

Instead, the accused took her to a secluded area near Kolar Highway, where she was tortured and robbed of valuables of gold and the gang demanded Rs 33 lakh as ransom for her release. “When Manas refused to give them money, they decided to kill him and throw his body in the forest,” said a police officer.

During this, the police was alerted. A special team traces the gang and saves Manas before carrying out their plan to kill Manas.
