Six science projects of Govt. school bag award

Six science projects developed by government school students in Puducherry will share the prize money of around 600 Euros (approximately ₹50,000) announced by the University of Paris, (University Paris-Sud 11 South 11), Orsay.

These award-winning entries were one of 12 project proposals selected from 42 submissions for the 14th edition of the International Edition of the Ftes de la Science competition, organized by the State Training Centre, Department of School Education, Science. Technology and Environment and Pondicherry Science Forum (PSF).

All 12 proposals benefited from seed money of around Rs 3,000 provided by the French university to develop its ideas into appropriate scientific projects under the guidance of their teachers.

Faites de la Science (Make Science International) competition is an annual event to promote scientific temper among government school students of Puducherry.

D. Aravindraja, Coordinator of Make Science, said, “This is the first time that instead of choosing the top two winners for a cash prize and a student jury prize, the host of the event has decided to give a special prize to six participants. ” International competition 2020–2021.

The event is open to students of classes VIII, IX and XI. Each school team can have up to five members. As a practice, the University of Paris awarded a first prize of approximately ₹18,000 and a second prize of approximately ₹6,000, along with a special student jury prize (where students in Paris choose a project).

The 12 shortlisted entries were from the students of government schools of Manapet, Mettupalayam, Katerikuppam, Embalam, Bahaur, Ariyankuppam and Karmanikuppam.

The coordinator said that six special awards were presented by Maraimalai Adigal Government HSS, Embalam, Government Higher Secondary School, Mettupalayam, Indira Gandhi Government High School, Katerikuppam and Government Middle School, Manapet (two entries).
