Tokyo: The Japanese government has honored 10 prominent Arab figures with imperial orders, decorations and medals for their remarkable contributions in various fields to strengthen ties and foster friendship between their countries and Japan.

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star was awarded to Hisham Badr, former Egyptian Ambassador to Japan and Egypt’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations. President of the International Shotokan Karate Federation in Lebanon, Fadi Aun received the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Raise, for his contribution to the promotion of karate in Lebanon and the friendly relations between Japan and Lebanon.

The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star was awarded to both former Jordanian Interior Minister Hussein Hazza Majali and former Mauritania Ambassador to Japan Aliu Ibra Ba.

From the United Arab Emirates, former CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Yousef bin Omir Al Muhairi, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Raises with a Neck Ribbon for his contribution in the field of energy supply to Japan.

Tunisia’s Mohamed Mazoghi Sidi Bu Said was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rise with Rosette, for his contribution to fostering friendship between Japan and Tunisia through sport. He is also the chairman of the Tunisian National Paralympic Committee.

Among Middle East honours, former Iranian ambassador to Japan, Sayyid Abbas Araghachi, and former deputy foreign minister for political affairs received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star. Turkey-Japan Business Council member, Aziz Engel of Turkey received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rise with Rosette.

Honored foreign dignitaries include former US Ambassador to Japan John Ross. He was awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.

Among the recognized Japanese celebrities, 78-year-old Makiko Tanaka, Japan’s first female foreign minister and daughter of former Prime Minister Kakui Tanaka, will receive the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun.

According to the government, decorations will be given to the honorees at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on May 10.
