New Delhi:

Deputy CM Manish Sisodia on Saturday said that the slum dwellers will now be part of the consultation organized to find out ways to improve the living conditions of the people living in these settlements in Delhi.

Shri Sisodia said this while participating in the program ‘National Consultation on Community Leadership Management of Basti in Delhi’ organized by DUSIB.

He assured the people that the government would look into their demands.

Organized by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and supported by the Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), the objective of the consultation was to form a slum/basti level committee and help in the upliftment of slums.

“The slum dwellers will now be contributed and consulted for the development and maintenance of the community,” Mr. Sisodia said. The suggestions of experts will be taken care of by the Delhi government.

Section 13 of the DUSIB Act provides for the constitution of a settlement development committee.

The provision calls for government partnerships with slum dwellers to help them access basic amenities and means of livelihood in 675 listed slums belonging to 25 land-owning agencies of state and central government bodies.

Rajya Sabha member Amar Patnaik, who was also part of the consultation, raised the need to give land ownership to the slum dwellers and give them livelihood opportunities to ensure the development of the community.

Another MP Ayodhya Rami Reddy pointed to the lack of planning in the slums, who suggested that stakeholders should look into it.
