SMAT 2022: Saurashtra beat Gujarat by three wickets

Saurashtra’s combined effort outweighed the individual brilliance of Chirag Gandhi as they beat Gujarat by three wickets in their Group D Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in Indore on Sunday.

Batting first, Gujarat scored 162 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Saurashtra completed the task with just one over remaining.

For Gujarat, Gandhi played the most explosive innings of 63 runs in 23 balls, in which he hit six fours and four sixes in his stormy innings. Opener Urveel Patel contributed 40 off 32 balls, hitting six fours and helping his team get off to a good start with skipper Priyank Panchal (16).

However, Panchal was the first player when veteran Jaydev Unadkat got the batsman caught by his counterpart Sheldon Jackson.

Yuvraj Chudasama was the most impressive bowler for Saurashtra, taking two wickets for Unadkat, who conceded 37 runs in his four overs.

In reply, Tarang Gohail scored 19 off 11 balls before being dismissed by Vishal Jaiswal. But Cheteshwar Pujara, India’s number three batsman in Tests, shared a useful partnership with Samarth Vyas (33) and skipper Jackson (15) to score 38 runs in 27 balls.

Parth Chauhan scored 25 off 16 balls before Jay Gohil (19 off 14 balls) helped Saurashtra cross the line.
