Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, who is at loggerheads with the MK Stalin-led state government, today hit out at the Dravidian ruling party over caste-based oppression in the state with “so much for social justice”. He said, “We have been talking a lot about social justice. But, here every other day there are some atrocities against Dalits.” Shri Ravi was speaking at the release of the Tamil version of the books “Modi @ 20: Dreams Meet Delivery”, and “Ambedkar and Modi – Reformer’s Ideal, Artist’s Implementation”.

The ruling DMK hit back saying it was their government which ensured elections in three reserved panchayats where elections were not held earlier.

He cited a case of human excreta being mixed in drinking water for a Dalit colony in Iraiyur village in central Tamil Nadu, where a large amount of human waste was found in a 10,000-litre water tank, making it unsafe for people to drink. Was supplying water to Dalit community of about 100 people.

He further said that the Scheduled Caste communities were being denied entry into the temples. Many such cases have come to the fore in the state. Recently, on January 30, over 200 people from a Scheduled Caste community, who were denied entry into a temple for almost eight decades, were taken to the temple for worship by police and district administration in Tiruvannamalai district Went.

He also alleged that Dalit children are segregated from others in Anganwadi centres.

Describing the response of law enforcement and the criminal justice system to crimes against Dalits as “terrible”, RN Ravi said the conviction rate in cases of rape of Dalit women was only seven per cent.

He said, “93 out of 100 rapists get away and we talk about social justice and Babasaheb.”

Citing a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), he said 30 percent of the central allocation for housing Dalits goes unspent, and the rest, major chunks, are diverted “for any other purposes”. goes.

The DMK challenged the governor’s lack of conviction rate, saying it was the highest in the country, and much worse in the northern states.
