Somalia’s president says at least 100 killed in Saturday’s terror attack

Mogadishu: At least 100 people were killed in two car bombings on Saturday at a busy square in the capital, Somalia’s president said and the death toll could rise. In a statement at the blast site, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamed told reporters early Sunday that about 300 others were injured. It was the deadliest attack in Somalia since a truck bombing at the same location in October 2017, which killed more than 500 people.

Somalia’s government has blamed the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab extremist group, which often targets the capital. The group does not claim responsibility when large numbers of civilians are killed.
