Terming it as a conspiracy to disturb peace in Karnataka, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said some anti-social elements were trying to malign the state’s image by sending bomb threats to several private schools in Bengaluru through e-mails. Appealed to the parents not to worry as necessary precautionary measures are being taken and investigation is on.

Soon after the threatening e-mails, police rushed to the scene, as well as launched a search operation with a bomb disposal squad, and the threats turned out to be “hoax”.

Talking to ANI, he said, “There is a conspiracy going on to disturb peace in the state. Karnataka is a progressive state and some elements are trying to malign this image time and again. Police officers have been directed to look into these matters seriously. Bomb threaters will be traced and arrested. Effective security and check-up measures will be taken. Necessary precautionary steps are being taken. Parents need not worry.”

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant told News18 that they are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter. Six schools – Delhi Public School (DPS) Bangalore East, Gopalan International, New Academy School, Vincent Paloti School, Indian Public School and Ebenezer International School in Bengaluru Rural Limit – received emails containing similar content between 10.15 am and 11 am.

The email, a copy of which is with News18, read: “A very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, attention is not a joke, it is not a joke, a very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, immediately to the police and sappers.” Call, hundreds of lives may suffer, including yours, don’t delay, everything is in your hands now!

Additional Commissioner of Police Bengaluru (East) A Subramanyaeshwara Rao said that bomb detection and disposal teams were also sent to schools that had received threats separately, “Searchs have been conducted in all schools and no cause for concern has been found. No item has been found.” Investigation teams are checking the e-mails, Rao said.

“We will find out at the earliest who is behind this and will take necessary action,” he said. He said that the mails have come from different email-ids and it will be investigated.

The police evacuated the threatened schools and the parents were asked to come and pick up the children. The 10th class examination is going on in the state now.
