“Son Innocent, will appear before police tomorrow”: Minister on farmer deaths

Eight people died in UP district after a car rammed over a group of protesters.

Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh:
Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish, accused of crushing farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, did not attend the police questioning this morning amid growing outrage over the inaction in the case. The summons was pasted outside the minister’s house.

Here are the 10 developments of this big story:

  1. It was the first time that Ashish Mishra was called for questioning amid calls for his arrest by opposition leaders – the violence that erupted in Lakhimpur on Sunday has become a major political issue months ahead of the state elections. Police posted summons outside Ajay Mishra’s house for the second time today.

  2. Union minister Ajay Mishra today said his son was “innocent” and would appear before the police tomorrow. The junior home minister said, “We have full faith in the law. My son is innocent. He got the notice on Thursday but he said that he is not feeling well. He will appear before the police tomorrow and give his statement and evidence as he is innocent. Is.” was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

  3. Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in a UP district on Sunday when a car rammed into a group of protesters protesting the visit of junior home minister Ajay Mishra and UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.

  4. Officials said that Ajay Mishra was asked to appear for questioning at 10 am, yet top cop Upendra Agarwal – who is heading the eight-member probe team – kept waiting for him. He was named in an FIR filed by farmers, who demanded strict action against him.

  5. The FIR states that Ajay Mishra reached the protesting farmers’ meeting amid a peaceful black flag protest. “The incident took place at around 3 pm, when Ashish Mishra along with his three vehicles along with 15-20 men headed towards the Banwaripur meeting place with weapons… Ashish fired at the crowd sitting to the left of his Thar Mahindra. The vehicle was crushed… The 22-year-old son of farmer Sukhwinder Singh, Gurwinder, was killed in the firing.

  6. Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi among others have alleged that the police is shielding high-profile accused.

  7. As soon as the matter reached the Supreme Court, two people Luv Kush and Ashish Pandey were arrested on Thursday. Police said they were allegedly in the same vehicle that ran over a journalist and farmers.

  8. “Summons have been issued to Ashish Mishra and he has been asked to come for questioning at the earliest and further action will be taken against him,” Lucknow Zone Inspector General Laxmi Singh told NDTV on Thursday. Laxmi Singh said, “We are not protecting anyone. The law of the land is same for all. We will ensure that strict action is taken.” There are 13 people named in the case.

  9. A day after the Supreme Court, which is hearing a petition related to the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, on Thursday questioned “how many people have been arrested”, the state government this afternoon said it would be fair. Checking for sure.

  10. While Ajay Mishra and his son have denied that they were present at the spot, demands have been raised that the Union minister should step down. The minister told NDTV earlier this week that the SUV – which is seen speeding over the protesters in the viral video – belonged to his family. Sources said that after his meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, however, his resignation has been rejected.
