Foundation stone for revision of US Mallya Gate laid at NMPT

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday launched several projects at New Mangalore Port, including laying the foundation stone for the revamping of US Mallya Gate and a truck terminal, and dedicating a business development center at Panambur.

His visit was part of a series of visits to all major ports of the country since he took over the new portfolio in July 2021. During his visit, Mr. Sonowal inspected the development works at the port.

New Mangalore Port has three gates, East, South and North of Custom Bond area, for receipt of EXIM cargo and clearance of import cargo. east gate [U.S. Mallya Gate] The name of the founder of the port has been proposed for amendment. The gate complex will be constructed with ground plus two floors.

It will have two wheeler lane, one four wheeler lane, one truck lane, one pedestrian lane, provision of RFID system, radiological monitoring equipment and boom barriers. The first and second floors will have four office rooms for CCTV surveillance office, CISF office and control room. It will be completed by March 2022 at an estimated cost of ₹3.22 crore.

Mr. Sonowal also laid the foundation stone for a 17,000 square meter truck terminal to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore, comprising a restaurant, dormitory and rest rooms. The port already has two terminals of 12,000 square meters and 16,000 square meters respectively. While the new terminal will have pucca quality concrete surface, the existing terminals will also get PQC surface at a cost of Rs 4 crore.

The Minister later inaugurated the Business Development Center for construction of Testing and Certification Centers along National Highway 66 by the New Mangalore Port Trust. The center was built at a total cost of ₹25 crore with the support of ₹15 crore from the Ministry of Commerce. Export cargo handled at the port is now being tested at centers located in Mysore and Mumbai. This includes parking on the stilt level, conference hall, restaurant, post office/bank, customs and port offices and testing centre.

Shri Sonowal distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions organized for NMPT employees and family members on the occasion of Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav.
