Sony’s gaming division acquires ‘God of War’ creator Valkyrie Entertainment

Sony’s wholly-owned gaming division said Friday it has agreed to buy “God of War” developer Valkyrie Entertainment For an undisclosed amount, as it attempts to add more muscle to its PlayStation Studios.

The deal is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s fifth acquisition this year, following the purchases of Nixx Software, “returnal” developer Housemark, Bluepoint Games and FireSprite.

People turned to video games for entertainment during last year’s lockdown, leading to a surge despite the reopening of schools and the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

Seattle-based Valkyrie, which also produces other popular titles such as “Twisted Metal” and “Infamous” and has worked on the “Forza Motorsport” franchise, will continue to be run by its current management team.

PlayStation Studios chief Herman Hurst said in a tweet that Valkyrie would make an “invaluable contribution” to The Division’s franchise.
