Soumya Vishwanathan murder: Court sentences four convicts to life imprisonment

Soumya Vishwanathan murder: Delhi’s Saket District Court on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to four convicts in the murder case of TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan. The fifth convict in the case, Ajay Sethi got 3 years in jail.

The court turned down the request to give the murders the death sentence and said that the case doesn’t fall within the range of rare cases.

The Delhi court had reserved the order for pronouncement of the quantum of sentence in the murder case of Soumya Vishwanathan.

“Pronouncement of the verdict on sentence in the Soumya Vishwanathan murder case to passed tomorrow,” said the trial Judge Ravindra Kumar Pandey after detailed arguments on Friday.

The court noted that Delhi’s legal service authority (DLSA) has submitted verification report affidavits of convicts report submitted.

During the arguments, the Public prosecutor told the Court that apart from Amit Shukla the DLSA has given a “satisfactory” report of conduct in jail.

Soumya Vishwanathan was shot dead on September 30, 2008, while she was on her way back home from work in her car around 3:30 am. The police investigation found robbery as the main motive behind the murder.
