SP Balasubramaniam’s last song for Rajinikanth, from upcoming film Annaatthe to release today

In the mid 80s and 90s, when highly energetic, powerful and octane solo intro songs started trending, it was legendary singer SP Balasubramaniam aka SPB who sang blockbuster songs for superstar Rajinikanth. From Rakasma Kayathattu to Thalapathy to Annaatthe, SPB’s powerful voice enthralled Rajinikanth with the audience at large.

Now, the first single from Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Annaatthe is all set to release on October 4 at 6 PM. The moment evokes mixed feelings for SPB fans as it was the last song he sang before his demise in 2020. Incidentally, the legendary singer’s last recorded song is for Rajinikanth in the film Annaatthe, composed by D Imman.

On September 25, 2020, the entire nation mourned the demise of veteran singer SP Balasubrahmanyam after he succumbed to COVID-19 complications. He passed away at a private hospital in Chennai due to lung failure after a long battle with the deadly virus. Ten days ago, tributes were paid to the late singer SPB on his first death anniversary.

His fans have got a chance to celebrate his divine voice again. Producers Sun Pictures announced on social media, “#AnnaattheFirstSingle sung by the great Padma Vibhushan Thiru #SPBalasubramaniam releasing on October 4th at 6PM!”

Annaatthe is directed by Siruthai Siva starring opposite Rajinikanth and the film also stars Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Meena and Khushboo. Recently, its first look and motion poster was released and it was well received. In addition, Sun Pictures had announced that the film will release on November 4, 2021 for Diwali. However, a few days back, there was chaos in the release date of Annaatthe. But, with this announcement, Sun Pictures has clarified that they are just rumours.
