At least 12 Lok Sabha members of Shiv Sena had written to the Speaker urging Shewale to be appointed their leader in the lower house, expressing no confidence in Vinayak Raut.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday named rebel Shiv Sena MP Rahul Shewale as the leader of the party in the lower house of Parliament. This decision was notified late night through a circular issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

At least 12 Lok Sabha members of Shiv Sena had written to the Speaker urging Shewale to be appointed their leader in the lower house, with no faith in Vinayak Raut. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with 12 of the Shiv Sena’s 19 Lok Sabha members, named Shewale as the party’s leader in the Lok Sabha.

The break in Shiv Sena’s ranks in Parliament came a month after Shinde’s revolt, with a large section of MLAs exiting the party on June 20. The number of MLAs who joined the Shinde camp from Shiv Sena gradually increased to 40. Out of 55 total. Shinde was appointed chief minister on June 30, after Uddhav Thackeray stepped down in the wake of the rebellion.
