SpiceJet’s Ajay Singh congratulates Tata on winning Air India bid

SpiceJet’s Ajay Singh also participated in the bidding process in his personal capacity.

New Delhi: SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh on Friday congratulated the Tata Group on winning the Air India bid. Tata Sons’ Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Tales Pvt Ltd successfully bid for Rs 18,000 crore to acquire the debt-ridden national carrier. Mr Singh, who also participated in the bidding process in his personal capacity, placed a bid of Rs 15,100 crore.

In a statement, SpiceJet Chairman said, “I congratulate the Tata Group on winning the bid for Air India and wish them all the success. It is my honor and privilege to be shortlisted to bid for Air India.” That was it. I am sure the Tata group will restore Air India’s pride and make India proud.”

He thanked the government for the successful disinvestment of Air India, saying it “triggered a transparent and flexible process and gave new impetus to India’s disinvestment programme.”

In conclusion, he said, “I have been an Air India fan all my life and the time has come for the Maharaja to reclaim his position as the world’s leading airline.”

Ratan Tata, Honorary Chairman of Tata Sons, also shared an emotional note on Twitter and wrote, “Welcome back, Air India.”

“On an emotional note, under the leadership of Mr. JRD Tata, Air India had, at one time, gained the reputation of being one of the most prestigious airlines in the world. Tata will have an opportunity to regain that image and prestige. Which he had enjoyed. In earlier years. If Mr. JRD Tata was among us today, it would have been a great pleasure,” Mr. Tata said.

Air India started life as Tata Air Services in 1932 when it was founded by JRD Tata. The company was nationalized by the government in 1953. JRD Tata remained its chairman till 1977.

Air India became the first Asian airline to incorporate jet aircraft and began flying to New York in 1960.

Air India has incurred a loss of more than Rs 70,000 crore and the government suffers a loss of around Rs 20 crore every day.

Currently, the Tata Group operates Vistara in partnership with Singapore Airlines and AirAsia India in partnership with Malaysia’s AirAsia.
