Spotify 2021 Wrapped Is All About the ‘New Normal’

Spotify 2021 Wrapped is now live. The personalized user experience, which the platform has been releasing for the past three years from the first day of December 2019, includes top artists, albums, songs, playlists and podcasts that you have played throughout the year. One of the most notable additions to Spotify Wrapped is the cinematic experience that the company calls 2021: The Movie. It combines all your top songs with classic scenes from a movie. Spotify did it for the first time too introduced Playing Cards on Wrapped to bring you an interactive data-based game where some statements about what you hear will be shown this year, and you’ll have to guess which ones are true.

Spotify users can also tap on the new Blend feature to see how their 2021 music tastes match up with friends and stream their mixed playlists. If you want to share what you heard, you can also put your wrap on social media.

Specifically for this year, Spotify has added videos from over 170 artists and creators thanking their fans on the platform. You’ll find these videos when you have a song from one of the participating artists in the ‘Your Top Songs 2021’ or ‘Your Artists Revealed’ playlist.

There will also be Spotify Clips for podcasts that feature special thank you messages from the podcast host. You can watch them on Spotify by visiting the page for a participating show.

Spotify also revealed that Top Hits Hindi remained the top playlist in the country, but doubled its number of followers to 636,000 in 2021 from the previous year.

On the podcast part, Spotify found that 50 percent of the top 10 podcasts consumed this year were native to the platform. It was the same as last year. Local content was also different in Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata, where Purijagannadha (Telugu), Nalana Murukku – RJ Balaji Podcast (Tamil) and Sunday Suspense (Bengali) are prominent respectively. However, The Ranveer Show emerged as the most popular podcast in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune.

Spotify also found that Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Jaipur were among the top 10 cities that stream podcasts on the platform.

In addition to its users, Spotify has also rolled out the Wrapped Creator experience for podcasters and artists. Creators can find it as a microsite through Spotify for Artists and Spotify for Podcasters.

Spotify also told Gadgets 360 that it offers artists and their teams a custom personalized Spotify “wrapped” experience on its platform to help them learn the facts about what their fans are listening to throughout the year. This is not limited to the number of playlists they were added to, the number of countries where their music was first played, and their top song’s tour, among others. The company said this gives artists an opportunity to share these insights and connect with their fans.
