Sri Lanka: Two elephants killed after being hit by train in Sri Lanka – Times of India

Colombo: Two wild elephants were killed and one injured after being hit by a speeding goods train. Sri LankaIn an incident in Anuradhapura district, there was an incident of derailment of the train. The accident happened in Kotwal on Friday night landfill region, Lanka firstReported an online news portal.
Anuradhapura railway control room Told that wild elephant collided with train carrying wheat flour ceduvaa suburb in western province of Sri Lanka.
The control room said the goods train also derailed.
Train service on the Batticaloa route has been suspended after the accident.
The Railway Control Room said teams have been deployed to restore movement on the train route.
Elephants in Sri Lanka are revered but also endangered.
In 2011, the country’s first elephant census put their population at around 6,000.
