Sri Lanka’s Suranga Lakmal to retire from international cricket after India tour

Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal has announced that he will retire from international cricket after the upcoming tour of India.

Sri Lankan fast bowler Suranga Lakmal will retire from international cricket after his upcoming tour of India, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in a statement. The SLC said that Lakmal has conveyed his decision to the board.

Lakmal made his ODI debut against India in December 2009. He has taken 168 wickets in 68 Test matches and 109 wickets in 86 ODIs. The 34-year-old played only 11 T20Is, taking eight wickets.

“I am indebted to Sri Lanka Cricket for giving me this amazing opportunity and for believing in me to bring back the honor of my motherland as it was an absolute pleasure to be associated with the board which shaped my professional life and also my personal growth. Prosperised. , Lakmal is quoted by the SLC as saying in a retirement letter that he had sent to the board.

He added, “I have nothing but the utmost respect for all our players, coaches, team managers, support staff, administrative staff and all other support staff.”

SLC CEO Ashley de Silva said, “We take this opportunity to wish Lakmal the best of luck in his future endeavours, and look forward to seeing him perform for the country during the tour of Sri Lanka, if the selectors consider him for the tour.” ” ,

De Silva said, “Lakmal has been an outstanding contributor to Sri Lankan cricket and he delivered some memorable spells during his national career and his services will be well remembered.”

Sri Lanka are scheduled to play two Tests and three T20Is in the tour starting February 25. The first Test will be played in Bengaluru from February 25 and in Mohali from March 5. Mohali will then host the first T20I on March 13 followed by the second T20I in Dharamsala. The tour will conclude with the third T20I in Lucknow on March 18.
