SSR drug case: Riya Chakraborty, brother Shoik accused by NCB

In connection with the drug case in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Wednesday filed draft charges against actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Shoik Chakraborty and others. The charges have been filed in a special court in Mumbai. A PTI report said that Special Public Prosecutor Atul Sarpande said that the prosecution maintained the charge against all the accused, as mentioned in the charge sheet filed before the court.

In a tragic incident, on June 14, 2020, Sushant was found dead at his Bandra residence. After the death, the CBI started the investigation of the case. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau also conducted separate investigations in the matter. Riya was arrested in September 2020 and was granted bail after about a month. Shoik and several others have also been indicted as accused for allegedly consuming, possessing and financing drugs.

On Wednesday, the prosecution told the court to charge Riya and Shoik for drug abuse and also for the purchase and payment of such substances for deceased actor Rajput.

“The court was about to frame charges against all the accused. However, this could not be done as some of the accused applied for acquittal. The court has said that charges will be framed only after the discharge petitions are decided.

All the accused, including Riya and Shoik, appeared in the court on Wednesday. Special Judge VG Raghuvanshi, who heard matters related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, posted the matter for hearing on July 12.
