St Xavier’s University ‘Force’ professor to leave as students see bikini photos of her on Instagram

A former assistant professor at St Xavier’s University in Kolkata was reportedly asked to leave after a parent complained that she saw her son looking at pictures of her in a bikini on Instagram.

According to media reports, the former assistant professor alleged that he was asked to leave the university after he received a written complaint from the father of the first year graduate student last year. However, St Xavier’s has denied the allegations and claimed that the assistant professor resigned voluntarily.

In the letter, the parents said they had caught their son looking at photographs of a university professor that were “objectionable”, “obscene” and “bordered on nudity”. A complaint letter allegedly prepared by the father, named BK Mukherjee, is going viral on social media.

Uploading pictures of her undergarments and on social media is extremely embarrassing for me as a parent as I have tried to protect my son from such gross indecency and objectification of female body. Father said in his letter, it is obscene, obscene and inappropriate for an 18-year-old student

“Recently, I was shocked to see some pictures of my son Prof. where he is intentionally portrayed sexually because of public exposure. Seeing a teacher wearing undergarments and uploading pictures on social media It is extremely embarrassing for me as a parent to try to protect my son from such gross indecency and female body object. It is obscene, obscene and inappropriate for an 18 year old student to See your professor wearing less clothes displaying his body on a public platform,” the complaint letter reads.

Thereafter, the professor was called for a meeting with the university officials. The professor alleges that during the meeting he was shown a complaint letter from the parent and a piece of paper with thumbnails of some pictures from his personal Instagram account. Furthermore, the professor was pressured to leave the university because he had “tarnished the reputation of the university”.

The professor claimed in a police report filed on October 24, 2021 that his personal Instagram account may have been hacked, leading to the disclosure and distribution of his images. She said the university’s behavior leading to her dismissal constituted sexual harassment and willful character assassination.
