Starlink Wants to Offer Global Roaming Satellite Internet: Here’s How Much It Will Cost

Last Update: February 20, 2023, 08:45 IST

Starlink has been providing satellite internet

The company is providing internet services in Ukraine and other remote areas.

Elon Musk-run Starlink is testing a new global roaming satellite Internet service for $200 a month in addition to the base $599 Starlink kit.

The Globalized Roaming Internet Service will use Starlink’s inter-satellite links (space lasers) to provide worldwide connectivity.

“You are invited to try the Starlink Global Roaming service, which allows your Starlink to connect from virtually anywhere in the world,” the company said in a message to its users.

As this is a new technology, the company said you can expect Starlink’s typical high-speed, low-latency service to be intermittent with brief periods of poor connectivity, or none at all.

“However, it will improve dramatically over time,” said the company under SpaceX.

However, it is not clear how Starlink will provide roaming internet in all parts of the world, as many countries including India are yet to approve it.

The company said that if users are not completely satisfied with Global Roaming, they can return the hardware within 30 days for a full refund.

The company said, ‘Service can be stopped or canceled at any time.

At this time, payment for global roaming is only available in US dollars.

“If you are located outside the US, you will also be responsible for acting as the importer of record of the Starlink kit, which may include paying customs duties and import taxes if required,” the company said.

Participating in global roaming will not affect your place in the queue for residential service.

Currently, the $25 per month portability add-on comes on top of the $110 subscription for residential customers.
