Kyiv:

One person was killed and two others were injured after Russia fired more than a dozen missiles in a massive airstrike on Thursday, the mayor of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv said.

An operator said Ukraine implemented emergency power cuts to ease pressure on the power grid following Russian attacks on Kyiv and several other regions.

“One person was killed and two were injured when a rocket hit a non-residential building in the Golosievsky district,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a statement on social media. The military administration of the city of Kyiv said the death was caused by falling fragments of a missile.

Sergiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said, “The enemy fired more than 15 cruise missiles in the direction of Kyiv. Thanks to the excellent work of the air defense, all air targets were shot down.” While mayor Vitali Klitschko said: “Bomb in Kyiv! Stay in shelter homes!”

Officials in Ukraine’s southern region of Odessa said two energy facilities were hit by Russian missiles. “Due to the threat of a missile attack in Kiev and the regions of Kyiv, Odessa and Dnipropetrovsk, an emergency blackout has been introduced,” Ukraine’s largest private power producer DTEK said.

Yuri Kruk, head of the region’s military administration, said on social media: “There is already information about the damage caused to two important energy infrastructure facilities in Odessa. No one is injured. The Air Defense Forces are operating in the Odessa region. “
