“Stay Single”: Nagaland’s Minister’s Solution to Population Growth

On World Population Day, Minister calls for making informed choices on family planning

Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along, who has been trending on social media for his “small-eyed” remarks that humorously called out racism, has now come out in a witty take on population growth in the country.

On the occasion of World Population Day, the minister called for making informed choices on family planning and also suggested a “solution”.

“On the occasion of World Population Day, let us be mindful of the issues of population growth and make informed choices when it comes to having children. Or be single like me and together we can contribute towards a sustainable future. Let’s join the single movement today,” tweeted the minister.

Mr Inma’s witty message was appreciated by many on Twitter. “You have a unique sense of humour. I really like you mixing elements of humor with serious themes,” wrote one user.

Some said that Mr. Inma is the most eligible bachelor after Salman Khan.

Mr. Inma’s remarks on the “benefit of having small eyes” had sparked a smile while invoking the casual racism still faced by the people of the Northeast. The minister jokingly said that there are advantages to having small eyes.

“Less dirt enters my eyes. Also, I can sleep easily when I am on stage and there is a long program going on,” Mr. Inma had said.

The video of his address was later shared on Twitter by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. “My brother is in full form,” the caption read.

Mr Inma’s comment went viral and garnered praise from Twitter users. Many applauded his quirky way of reacting to racism.
