Stockbrokers to report cyber attacks within 6 hours of detection: SEBI

This cyber attack information will be shared by the touts to SEBI through a dedicated e-mail ID.

Brokers are required to report such incidents to the exchanges, depositories and regulators within the specified time.

SEBI on Thursday asked stock brokers and depository participants to report all cyber attacks, threats and breaches within six hours of detection of such incidents. They have to report such incidents to the exchanges, depositories and the regulator within the specified time.

According to a circular, the incident will also be reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) as per the guidelines issued by CERT-In from time to time. Additionally, stockbrokers and depository participants whose systems have been identified as ‘protected systems’ by the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Center (NCIIPC) shall also report such incidents to the NCIIPC.

SEBI said, “All cyber attacks, threats, cyber incidents and breaches experienced by stock brokers/depository participants shall be reported to the stock exchanges/depositories and SEBI shall take notice of such incidents/detection or notice of such incidents.” Will be given within six hours of being brought.” Circular. Quarterly report containing information on cyber attacks, threats, cyber incidents and the measures taken to mitigate breaches and vulnerabilities experienced by stockbrokers and depository participants, including information on bug vulnerabilities, threats that may affect others may be useful, must be presented. This information will be shared with SEBI through a dedicated e-mail ID. Earlier this month, the regulator laid down the framework for cyber security and cyber resilience for stockbrokers and depository participants.
