Stone pelting on Union Minister Satyapal Singh Baghel’s convoy in Karhali, UP

Union Minister and BJP leader Satyapal Singh Baghel’s convoy was attacked and stone pelted at Karhal in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday evening.

Satya Pal Singh Baghel is the BJP candidate from Karhal Assembly seat, from where Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav is also contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

According to reports, the BJP leader narrowly escaped during the attack. However, the window of a vehicle in Baghel’s convoy was shattered after hitting the stones.

BJP strongly condemned the attack on Baghel. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister KP Maurya alleged that ‘goons’ of the Samajwadi Party were behind the incident.

“Akhilesh Yadav ji, because of the fear of defeat in the election, you attack BJP candidate, Union Minister Prof. SP Singh Baghel and BJP leaders through your pet goons. Yesterday BJP MP Geeta Shakya was also attacked. Strict action will be taken against The perpetrators of both the incidents,” Maurya said in a series of tweets.

How did the attack happen?

The incident is from Rahmatullahpur village of Thana Karhal. Baghel was campaigning in the area ahead of the second phase of the UP assembly elections and was on his way to Atikullapur village along with other party leaders.

Some people were already present outside the village who started pelting stones at Baghel’s convoy. One vehicle was damaged in the attack, although people were safe.

Police was informed but by the time they reached the spot, the stone pelters had fled. ASP Madhuvan Kumar Singh said that the matter is being investigated. Action will be taken after the complaint is formally registered.
