The city’s civic body is all set to replace the existing street lights with ‘smart intelligent lights’ to prevent wastage of energy. It will also set up a Centralized Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) from where street lights can be managed.

The new intelligent street lights will replace the existing sodium vapor lamps with LED lights. According to BBMP officials, it will be implemented in all the eight BBMP areas of the city in the next two months.

talking to HinduA senior BBMP official said, “The civic body recently proposed a project to replace the existing conventional lamps with smart intelligent LED lights to reduce energy wastage and track all streetlight related issues from the control room. Is.”

“We will replace the old lamps with new intelligent LED lights on ward roads, arterial and sub-arterial roads and wherever necessary. Some places have poles but no lights, while some places require both poles and lights.

CCMS in 8 Zonal Offices

The civic body, which controls the functioning of street lights in Bengaluru, will set up CCMS in eight zonal offices of the BBMP from where the smart lights will be controlled and managed. From the control room, an officer can adjust the lighting, rather than just flicking a switch.

It will also help in saving energy as at present many areas across the city see lights burning even after day time.

The project will also help in the maintenance of street lights, which are currently a pain point across the city. It will also help the BBMP to note down the exact consumption of energy, which is used to define the cost to be paid to the electricity provider and also the exact reason why the light is not working.

The civic body has already started replacing sodium vapor lamps with LED lights in all areas in a phased manner. However, these are not intelligent streetlights. There are more than 4.85 lakh street lights in the city.
