Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Sunday said special intensive, stringent lockdown restrictions will be enforced in areas of Kerala where the spread of COVID-19 is at a significant level.

An order by the Chief Secretary VP said that stringent lockdown restrictions would be applicable in areas where the Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 10 and the affected places would be notified by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on a weekly basis. Joy.

The order stated that the affected areas would be publicized through websites and other media.

The district collectors will further notify the micro-containment zones as per the guidelines and implement the lockdown restrictions therein, the order read.

It said that contact tracing and quarantine will also be monitored and strengthened in all districts.

Today, the state reported 19,653 fresh COVID-19 cases and 152 deaths, taking the caseload to 45,08,493 and the death toll to 23,591 so far.

An official press release said that the number of people who have recovered from the infection since Saturday stood at 26,711, taking the total number of recoveries to 43,10,674 and the number of active cases to 1,73,631.
