Stuart Broad becomes second bowler to take 100 Test wickets at Lord’s

England pacer Stuart Broad has become the second player to take 100 Test wickets at Lord’s, joining long-time pacer James Anderson, who was on the field to welcome him in celebration.

On the second day of the opening Test against South Africa, Broad, 36, surpassed Kyle Wren to become the second player to take 100 Test wickets, leaving behind Ben Foakes.

The Proteas, however, took a commanding lead in the match, first bowling out the hosts for 165 in 45 overs before lunch on the second day and then posting 289/7 for a 124-run advantage.

Broad became the fourth man to take 100 Test wickets at the same spot with a record, entering a special group alongside his teammate as well as the Sri Lankan duo of Muttiah Muralitharan and Rangana Herath. Muraleedharan has achieved this feat in three places Galle, Kandy and Sinhalese. Play Club Ground in Colombo, as per ICC.

The feat is just one more achievement in the game for Broad, reaching fifth place behind Glenn McGrath on the Test wicket-takers list so far. Broad, with 553 scalps, is 10 away from equaling his Australian rival, and could well pass him by the end of the current series.

In the case of fast bowlers, Anderson (658 scalps so far) will be the only man who once overtook the Aussie and separated Broad at the top.
