Student asked to remove tilak from forehead for admission in Karnataka college

There was a fierce fight between the teacher and the student over this incident.

Vijayapura (Karnataka):

College authorities in Indy city on Friday prevented a man from entering the campus for applying sindoor on his forehead and asked him to remove it.

The lecturers stopped him at the gate and asked him to wipe off the sindoor before entering the college. The student was told that the customary vermilion on the forehead was also causing problems with the hijab and saffron scarves. There was a fierce fight between the teacher and the student over this.

In view of the hijab controversy in the state, the Karnataka High Court’s interim order and the state government’s order prohibited the use of hijab and saffron scarves. The orders did not prohibit anyone from applying vermilion on the forehead.

However, arguments took place in the High Court, where lawyers for Muslim girls challenging the state government’s order argued that hijab was a religious practice, as was the wearing of vermilion, bangles, turbans and rudraksha worn by Sikhs on the forehead.
