Bilaspur:

A 20-year-old man died while filming an Instagram reel with his friends at a college in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, police said on Saturday.

The incident, which took place at the Government Science College in Bilaspur city on Friday afternoon, was captured by the victim’s friends on their mobile phones, an official said.

As per preliminary information, Ashutosh Sau, a first-year Bachelor of Science student, along with five of his friends went to the terrace of the ground-plus-one-story college building to shoot a reel for Instagram.

The officer said that Sau jumped from the boundary wall of the terrace and climbed onto the window slab to take the film, but he slipped and fell from a height of 20 feet.

He said the person suffered head injuries and died on the spot.

He said the police have registered an accidental death report and further investigation is underway.

Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh posted a clip of people planning to reel in Sao and his friends on the terrace just before the incident, appealing people to avoid taking such risks.

In the video, Sao is seen jumping onto the window slab and is heard saying, “If I jump from here to there (another window sill), I will not be able to come back.” To this his friend is heard saying, “You (come back) I am making a video.”

The SP said on Twitter, “A young man (in orange T-shirt) fell down while making an Instagram reel with friends in Bilaspur Science College campus. He could not be saved. The incident is being investigated…vigilance is being exercised.”#SafetyFirst is essential at all times.”
