Student found dead in IIT Kharagpur hostel room

A partially decomposed body of a third-year IIT Kharagpur student was found in his hostel room after officials broke down Bolt’s door, an official of the premier institute said on Saturday.

Another IIT Kharagpur official said there is no apprehension of any disturbance at present and the authorities are probing the circumstances behind the death of the 23-year-old student.

His friends told that Fainaaz, a third year mechanical engineering student, was last seen on October 13.

He was a resident of Tinsukia district of Assam. His academic record was excellent and he did well in the examinations, Mr. Nath said. Her parents alleged that she was murdered and demanded a full investigation by the police into the incident.

Shri Nath said that the institute has several trained personnel as well as two NGOs, who provide counseling to anyone who is disappointed.

“For the past two years COVID-19 With restrictions and lockdown, we have put more emphasis on counseling the students to address any crisis, if we find the slightest sign of any symptoms,” he said.
