Students Federation of India activist stabbed to death inside Kerala college: Police

Police said Dheeraj Rajendan (21) and two others, a resident of Kannur, were attacked.

Idukki:

A Student Federation of India (SFI) worker was stabbed to death allegedly by Youth Congress workers at Idukki Engineering College on Monday.

Kannur resident Dheeraj Rajendan (21) and two others were attacked around 1 pm, they said.

“College elections are going on in the college for the past few days. There were minor issues between the two student organizations. He was shifted to a medical college, but he could not be saved,” police told PTI.

The other two students injured in the attack are Abhijeet and Amal. Police said that the condition of one person is critical.

Police said that as per preliminary investigation, it was a Youth Congress district leader Nikhil Pally who reached the college with a gang from outside and stabbed Dheeraj and others and fled the campus.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death and said attempts to create violence on campuses cannot be accepted.

“The murder of Dheeraj Rajendran, a student of Idukki Penavu Government Engineering College and an SFI activist, is extremely sad and highly condemnable. Attempts to create violence on college campuses will not be allowed under any circumstances. Police to bring Dheeraj’s killers Justice has been directed at the earliest,” Mr. Vijayan said.

Higher Education Minister R Bindu said a gang led by a Youth Congress leader entered the college and attacked the students.

“One student died. Another is in critical condition in the hospital. The government will take all necessary steps to bring to justice those who were involved in this dastardly murder. We will ensure that such incidents happen on campuses.” Violent acts should not be repeated. Ideology should be fought with ideology and not with weapons,” said Ms. Bindu.

CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters that the killing was pre-planned and this was the 21st Left activist killed in the state in the last six years.

“We condemn Dheeraj’s murder. When Congress was sure that they would lose in the college elections, Youth Congress workers from outside attacked SFI students. It was their attempt to make campuses a breeding ground for violence in the state. There is a plan. .21 CPI(M) workers have been killed in the state by BJP, Congress and SDPI in the last six years. They should put an end to the politics of violence,” Mr. Balakrishnan said.

He alleged that the Congress was trying to disturb the law and order situation in the state.

Meanwhile, state Congress chief K Sudhakaran said his party would not support any kind of violence.

“Let the people of Kerala decide who is more violent. Can anyone provide any details about any campus in the state where KSU (student wing of Congress) has called for the attack. We all know that Who is behind all the attacks. It is the SFI. The one who terrorizes the campuses. They have no right to blame us. They need to introspect the reasons behind the murder,” Mr. Sudhakaran told the media.

Hundreds of students and senior Left leaders, including MLAs, have gathered at the Idukki Medical College, where the student activist’s body is kept.
