A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court, seeking directions regarding the continuation of education of students who returned from Ukraine, who were pursuing medical courses there. The petition has sought his admission in medical colleges of India.
The petitioners have highlighted that there is no possibility of him going back and completing his education course in Ukraine in the near future. Hence, have sought help from the government, Live Law reported. “Even private institutions like MIT Group of Institutions in Maharashtra have come forward to offer seats for an Indian medical student returning from the war-torn country of Ukraine,” the petition said.

The petition, filed through advocates Rana Sandeep Busa and Dr Neetu Naidu, said the government needs to look into the matter and make way for admission of these students to Indian medical colleges. The plea has also sought relief for providing orientation programs on par with medical subjects to prepare them for the Indian curriculum.
“It is to be noted that the National Medical Commission has allowed foreign medical graduates to complete their internship in India due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, therefore in this background the government has to consider the plight of medical students He was forced to leave his medical education midway to run for his life and return to India due to the ongoing war, the petition said.

“The sudden interruption in their education is affecting the fundamental rights of nearly 20,000 Indian medical students, especially the right to life and the right to equality. Once the students are returning back to India their prospects are bleak and poor. In this dire situation, it is the duty of the Central and State Governments to come forward and extend a helping hand to the students and their families.
