Students showcasing their storytelling skills at the carnival

Students let their creative juices flow in ‘Story Carnival’, a two-day storytelling event organized by Mahatma Montessori Higher Secondary School, Baba Building.

Veteran story writers Geeta Ramanujam, KR Vidya and Rohini Chidambaram participated in the event. Other attendees included storytellers from Russia, Kenya, Italy and Indonesia.

One of the highlights of the festival were the tableaux, which depicted various themes like epics, village folklore, fairy tales and stories revolving around birds, animals and oceans.

The carnival was filled with various elements including book fair, puppet making, ‘Story House’ where students from a group of Mahatma Schools narrated stories in different genres with vibrantly decorated wonderland-like settings.

The students participated in various inter-school competitions like Role Play, Clay Modelling, Puppet Making, ‘Sing a Story’ etc. The rolling trophy was bagged by Virudhunagar TSM Manickam Nadar Janaki Ammal (VMJ) Higher Secondary School, which also received a cash prize of ₹30,000.

Ms. Rohini called upon schools to incorporate aspects of storytelling while teaching subject concepts as they help students learn better while Ms. Vidya appreciated the participation of students and teachers.
