Studies indicate that eating too much fish can lead to melanoma

Recent studies have indicated that eating too much fish can lead to a certain type of skin cancer. Researchers from Brown University have published these studies in the journal Cancer Cause and Control. Researchers attribute this problem to tuna and unfried fish.

According to the researchers, those consuming 3.2 grams of fish are not at risk. Compared to these people, those who consumed 42.8 grams were 22% more likely to have malignant melanoma. These people are 28% more likely to have abnormal cell growth in the outer layer of the skin. This is known as stage 0 cancer.

The researchers also noted that it is not fish in particular that cause cancer. According to researchers, it is the high levels of bio-contaminants like mercury that cause cancer. In addition to mercury, contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls, dioxins and arsenic are also responsible for cancer.

Currently, the authors do not recommend any changes in fish consumption. According to the authors, future research is needed to investigate contaminants, which pollute fish. These future research may reveal more about the link between fish consumption and melanoma cancer, the authors said.

For this research, the researchers collected examples of melanoma cancers that have developed over 15 years. This data was collected from cancer registries. Other socio-demographic factors such as participants’ body mass index, physical activity level, smoking history and family history of cancer were also included. Daily intake of alcohol, caffeine and average ultraviolet radiation levels were also included in the socio-demographic factors.

After this research, the question arises whether eating fish is good for health or not. According to a report published in The Indian Express, Dr Neeti Raizada said that fish is a source of omega 3 fatty acids. Fish is also a source of vitamins such as D and B2.

Dr Niti says that fish is also an abundant source of calcium and phosphorus. Talking about the link between fish and cancer, the doctor said that exposure to UV radiation from sunlight increases the risk of cancer.
