Many officials of West Bengal education A senior CBI official on Saturday claimed that the department was involved in irregularities in the recruitment of primary teachers. He alleged that the investigation so far has found that there are instances in which candidates were given appointments even after submitting blank answer sheets in which only their names and registration numbers were mentioned.

“Several officers including clerks and junior level employees have been found to be involved in irregularities in appointments in primary schools in West Bengal,” the CBI official told PTI. “We have found several answer sheets which are blank and only name and registration number are written on them. These candidates were given appointments later,” he alleged. The official claimed that a huge amount of cash was transacted between these officers and the candidates before the appointments, the official claimed, adding that the agency has traced the evidence in this regard.

The CBI is probing allegations that primary teachers were recruited illegally in the state on the directions of the Calcutta High Court. The court had on Wednesday asked the agency to probe allegations of “sale” of primary teachers’ jobs by a resident of North 24 Parganas. The agency has questioned former education minister Partha Chatterjee in the matter. The court directed the CBI to file a status report on its investigation on June 15, the next date of hearing.
