The Supreme Court on Thursday (May 19) dismissed the Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) group’s plea seeking a review of the 2021 verdict that had appointed Cyrus Mistry as the executive chairman of Tata Sons of the Tata group. The decision to remove was upheld.

However, a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana, in its March 2021 judgment, ordered removal of certain remarks made against Cyrus Mistry.

Senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the Tata group, said the court may allow the removal of one or a few sentences for the reasons given in the application of the Sapoorji Palanji (SP) group.

The apex court had on March 26, 2021 quashed the order of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) reinstating Mistry as the executive chairman of the software conglomerate for $100 billion.

The top court had also dismissed the Shapoorji Pallonji Group’s plea seeking separation of ownership interests in Tata Sons Private Limited (TSPL).

Mistry succeeded Ratan Tata as the chairman of TSPL in 2012, but was ousted after four years.
